About Me
Painting miniatures started out as a favor to my GM while working at a local gaming shop. We were playing Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and needed models to represent the big baddies at the end of scenarios and for major encounters. I was handed a Games Workshop Lichmaster miniature, not long out of print, and did my best. The GM loved the mini, and it encouraged me to continue.
Shortly after picking up my first brush, I attended a Games Day, and was awed by the works of Matt Verzani, Bobby Wong and Jennifer Haley. I knew I wanted to get better, and so I started trying harder. I also had a local painter, known online as OldTroll, who gave me plenty of encouragement to keep me going.
Over the past 7 1/2 years I’ve never stopped painting (though it’s a dog eat dog world amongst painters), and I’ve somehow managed to win 5 Demon Statues and a ForgeWorld best in show over 4 Baltimore Games Days. I’ve also had the pleasure of speaking with painters like Jeremie Bonamant and Jeff Wilhelm, both great people, who have given me something to continue striving for.
I don’t at the moment have a preferred manufacturer of miniatures, though you may notice in my gallery an overwhelming number of Werner Klocke sculpts. Despite hearing complaints from some painters regarding the inaccuracy of these model’s anatomical proportions, they are still some of the most expressive and dynamic female models on the market. I also have a fondness for Tom Meier sculpts for their near perfect scale at 28mm-30mm, so I hope you enjoy these tiny ladies as well.
I’m asked quite often if I accept commissions, and I suppose my definitive answer is “Well that depends on what you want”. Not very definitive at all I know, but honestly, unless I’m given carte blanche with a model, I don’t enjoy painting it as much. Please don’t let that fact discourage you from asking anyway. I currently paint from my home full time, though it’s not much of a living (bless that former GM who is now my husband for his patience and support), and would love one day to land a gig as a studio painter.
