Nicodem & Other Stuff

It’s been a while since an update, and for that I apologize. Life has gotten the better of me lately, and I just haven’t had the time to sit and write something. I recently entered Wyrd Miniatures “Total Testosterone 4″ online painting contest, and managed to walk away with 1st place in the Alternative Category as well as “Best of Wyrd”. Below is a picture of “Nicodem” (sold to a private collector post competition). Lots of fun to paint in classic green & purple villain colors. I have to admit though that after painting this model I started suffering from painter’s block. I’ve gotten some great advice on how to work through this, and I’m hoping it’s worked. I’ve started a new mini after almost a month of down time, and it’s looking pretty good so far. I’ll post her up here as soon as she’s done, or whine some more about painter’s block if she goes Pete Tong.

My husband and I will be moving middle of September, and while my work space will be one of the last things packed, I don’t expect to get a whole lot more painted in the interim.

Confrontation Valkyrie

It’s been a while since I painted one of these scrawny things, so I dug one out and tried a really vibrant purple to orange gradiant on her. It turned out better than I’d hoped, and I’m particularly happy with the NMM blade on her sword. She’ll make an appearance on eBay this evening. :-)

My First Ultra Marine

This mini is the Games Day 2008 Limited Edition figure. I wasn’t sure what Chapter to paint him in, and finally decided that good old Ultra Marines would work.

Iron Painter Round 4

Well, Round 4 of the Wyrd Iron Painter competition was the end of the road for me, having suffered a defeat to Darklord. It was nice to make to the semi-finals a second time in a row, though the finals would have been better. :-)
Here’s the piece I entered for the theme “Dirty Laundry”. It’s called “The Butcher’s Wife”, and is a heavily rescuplted Ogre Kingdoms model.

R.I.P George Carlin

The world lost a brilliant mind last night with the passing of George Carlin. I respected his views and commentary, and his insight to humanity will be missed.

Hasslefree’s Gayle Miniature

This is my first piece post Games Day. I’m still hard at work on my IP entry, but wanted to paint a figure that was fun and light. She was sold via private sale to a miniature collector. Here she is!

Games Day Baltimore

I’m back from Games Day Baltimore. The day went pretty well, though every year I’m a nervous wreck until final judging is done. I won the Warhammer 40K Single model Silver Demon & the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Bronze Demon. Little Bilbo Baggins made first cut and got an Honorable Mention. I also had the opportunity to hang out with some fantastic painters during the awards ceremony as well as chat a bit with some of the GW guys (”Dirty Steve” is always a trip!). No one was able to take home their Demon Statues due to a bad batch of resin. All of them were still gooey in the middle, but we were all assured they’ll be mailed to us once they have new ones cast.

Below are pics of my 3 entries as well as my Iron Painter Round 3 Entry for the theme “Bad to the Bone”.

Games Day & IP Rnd 3

An update here with this post. I completed my Iron Painter entry for the Round 3 theme “Bad to the Bone”. I should have a pic up later today.

I’ve finished 2 Golden Demon entries thus far for Games Day, and am making a last minute push to finish a 3rd. I’ve got the rest of today and a little bit of tomorrow to finish - nothing like waiting until the last possible second, right? :-) I won’t be posting pics of these until after Games Day so what I’ve done will be a surprise for those who are attending, but look for them some time next week.

Queen of Credits

I feel like such a heel! The always fantastic Kathryn Fields (best known as The Queen of Credits) has posted me as her featured artist of the month in honor of ReaperCon (last weekend). If you’ve never been to her site, it showcases an absolutely astounding collection of “credits” from hundreds of painters, many of them award winning. The Queen is an avid supporter of the painting hobby, and I’m honored to call her a friend. Stop by if you get the chance by clicking on the image below.

Iron Painter Round 2 Entry & New eBay Miniature

So this has been a busy couple of weeks, with lots of painting to do and, as per usual, little time to do it in. Round 2 of Iron Painter brought us “Light My Fire” as a theme. My first thought was “Oh god-more OSL”. I hate the technique, mostly because it make photography nearly impossible. At any rate, I decided to do a comical piece centering around Wyrd Miniature’s great little “Candy” model. I thought this innocent little girl chasing Frankenstein’s Monster off the edge of cliff would work pretty well. It took a bit of conversion (Candy’s arm had to be resculpted with a torch in hand, and Franky was cobbled from green stuff and a handful of GW bits). I’m very happy with the final result, but I’m pretty disappointed that my opponent this round was a DNF. Poor poor Jeff Wilhelm. :-) So here’s Candy. Click to enlarge of course….

You No Take Candy

I’ve also completed a piece for eBay this week. It features a Freebooter sword weilding hotty, set into a mini-diorama. I thought this model looked like she was standing in a hell of a gale, so I converted the tree in the background to be bending to the elements. She was a blast to paint, from her sheer leggings to her purple skirt.
